About the Voice of Dexter’s Daily Quotes
My name is Erica Moore, and I created Dexter’s Daily Quotes in memory of my beloved cats, Dexter Doolittle Moore and Luna L’amour. I never had children, so Dexter and Luna were my babies, my companions, my family, and my joy. Both were tragically killed in domestic violence situations: Luna in July 2018, and Dexter on October 8, 2018. Dexter was born on March 17, 2015, and though his life was heartbreakingly short, his spirit continues to guide me. This space is one of the ways I honor them by turning my grief into something that can offer strength, comfort, and connection to others.
In February 2020, I began a daily ritual: writing and sharing a quote every single day. For more than a year, through 2020 and into 2021, I kept that practice, completing an entire cycle of reflections. Each quote was paired with a bit of context about the person behind it and my own thoughts on what it meant in that moment. That year of writing became a lifeline, a way to remind myself, as a survivor, why I am still here. It was also a way to keep Dexter and Luna’s memory alive, to speak their names daily, and to build a rhythm of resilience.
Most of the quotes I shared came from well-known figures, including presidents, actors, actresses, musicians, and other public voices whose words have reached wide audiences. At times, I also included quotes from people who were not famous, but whose words carried just as much weight. I gathered them from films, speeches, interviews, and writings, and sometimes from simple statements that revealed profound insights into resilience, love, or humanity.
After sharing the quote itself, I would write about how it resonated with me, what it stirred in my own journey as a survivor, and how it connected to the ongoing process of healing and remembrance. This practice was never just about collecting words. It was about creating a dialogue between others’ voices and my lived experience. Each quote became a mirror, reflecting something I needed to remember: courage in the face of fear, hope in the midst of grief, or the reminder that community and connection are possible even after loss.
Now, I continue the project from time to time, welcoming the chance to resume and add new quotes whenever inspiration arises. The rhythm may not be daily anymore, but the heart of the practice remains the same: to share words that carry meaning, to reflect on their power, and to invite others into a space of healing and remembrance.
Dexter’s Daily Quotes is not just about inspiration; it is about resilience, community, and remembrance. Each quote is chosen with care, not only for its wisdom but for its ability to spark connection. Some remind us to keep moving forward when life feels heavy. Others invite us to pause and notice the beauty in small moments. Many remind us that we are not alone, that others have walked similar paths and left behind words that can guide us.
.This project is also deeply connected to my larger work through The Luna Projects, a survivor-led initiative I founded to provide trauma-informed resources, grief support, and advocacy through creative storytelling and accessible design. The Luna Projects is where I bring together my skills in writing, photography, web design, and community outreach to create tools that honor survivor voices and make healing more accessible.
In many ways, Dexter’s Daily Quotes is the heart of The Luna Projects. It represents the personal side of the work, the practice of remembrance and resilience that fuels the broader mission. The Luna Projects expands that vision outward, offering resources, grief kits, and advocacy tools designed to support survivors and communities. Together, these projects reflect both who Dexter and Luna were and who I am: a survivor, a creator, and someone committed to transforming loss into something that can help others.
My long-term goal is to transition The Luna Projects into a nonprofit organization, expanding partnerships with other survivor-led initiatives, authors, and advocates. By doing so, I hope to create a sustainable hub of resources that can reach more people, break stigma, and foster resilience through storytelling and creative design. Dexter’s Daily Quotes is one piece of that larger vision, a ritual of meaning that keeps me grounded while also offering encouragement to others.
